West Ham favored to take over Olympic Stadium

Olympic officials are meeting to decide whether West Ham or Tottenham will take over the main Olympic stadium after the 2012 London Games. West Ham is extensively expected to be chosen as the favored tenant by the Olympic Park Legacy Company. Friday's vote by the OPLC board comes after months of fierce debate and rancor over the future of the 537 million-pound ($867 million) stadium, which will stage the opening and closing observancies and track and field opposition in 2012.

West Ham proposes downsizing the 80,000-seat stadium to a 60,000-capacity stadium that would retain the Olympic running track. Tottenham would tear down most of the stadium and put up a purpose-built 60,000-seat football stadium on the same site without a track.
